From India to East Africa to London to LA, Radhika is personally and artistically a result of three generations of women who ventured to lands unknown. In the old days you would say gypsies or travellers. Nowadays you would use the word 'immigrant'. A telling story for today's times.
Her grandmother came from India to Nairobi by boat in the earliest 20th century. With her mother born in Kenya, there was mingling of cultures under the British Empire and the well kept traditions of the motherland. Carrying this into the upbringing Radhika had in London UK, she was equipped with best of these places, musically, spiritually, and culturally.
The story of three generations,
foreign lands and purpose through sound.
Throughout the course of her musical career, Radhika has won over the hearts of music lovers from all walks of life. Born and raised in London, UK, she was influenced by Indian Classical music and jazz and exposed to music early to the point of learning to sing before learning to talk.
Trained classical in piano from the age of six, she was immersed in orchestral and cinematic soundscapes from the inception of her musical learning. Radhika has travelled worldwide, performed and recorded with and for a variety of artists from Nitin Sawnhey and Grammy award winning Eddie Palmieri to the late Prince and many various UK pop acts.
Radhika gathered a wealth of live theatrical experience playing lead singer in the Franco Dragone production of INDIA INDIA in Germany, working closely with America’s Got Talent Director Brian Burke (La Reve, and Celine Dion’s ONE FINE DAY).
Musically gifted from a young age, Radhika was always found singing, performing, and playing a variety of instruments. Throughout the course of her musical career, she has won over the hearts of music lovers from all walks of life with her voice and her presence; performing at a variety of venues, public appearances, all the while developing her abilities with new music and immersing herself in a variety of musical traditions, from singing in Sanskrit and playing harmonium to jamming out on the Japanese Koto.
She has collaborated with performance artists from all over the world brought together with many of those from Cirque du Soleil and a theatrical background, all the while singing a repertoire of Peter Gabriel, A. R. Rahman and Sting songs. Radhika’s diverse background allowed her to learn phonetically complex Tamil, Hindi, Bengali compositions to perform live a staggering minimum of eight shows a week for a run of six months. Now residing in LA, Radhika's latest musical project SAPTA is powerful ode her Indian roots with ancient mantras in Sanskrit and playful inclusion of sounds from lands touched by her ancestry. With LA based producer George Landress, they committed to a project of authenticity down to ensuring no autotune was used on this project, with vocals raw and pure. Enlisting the help of India's incredible flautist, Shashank Acharya (Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia) and violinist Manas Kumar Ghosh, SAPTA exudes a sweet integrity to the origins of this music while transporting the listener to other worlds.
An avid yogi, student of Eastern Philosophy, Radhika recently won the Global Peace Song Awards 2017 and gives her time to several philanthropic causes globally, including raising awareness on the issue of child abandonment in Nepal.
